Cookie & Tracking Policy
We use tracking technologies on merplex.info to improve your experience and understand how you interact with our investment calendar tools. This page explains what we track, why we do it, and how you control it.
What Are Cookies Anyway?
Cookies are small text files that get stored on your device when you visit websites. Think of them as little notes that help websites remember your preferences and activity.
Some cookies stick around for months (persistent cookies), while others vanish when you close your browser (session cookies). We use both types depending on what job needs doing.
Beyond traditional cookies, we also use similar technologies like local storage, pixels, and web beacons. They all serve different purposes but basically help us understand how people use our platform.
Types of Tracking We Use
EEssential Cookies
These keep the site working. Without them, you couldn't log in, save calendar settings, or use core features. They're not optional because they make the basic functionality possible.
FFunctional Cookies
These remember your preferences—like which investment categories you track most or your preferred date format. They make your experience smoother by remembering what you like.
AAnalytics Cookies
We track how people navigate through calendar features, which filters get used most, and where folks tend to get stuck. This helps us improve the platform based on real usage patterns.
PPerformance Tracking
These monitor site speed, loading times, and technical performance. When something's running slow, we need data to figure out why and fix it.
How This Actually Helps You
Look, we could run the site without most tracking. But here's what you'd lose:
- Your saved calendar views and customized investment watchlists would disappear every time you closed your browser
- We wouldn't know which features confuse people, so improvements would be guesswork
- Performance problems would go unnoticed until they became major headaches
- Your preferred timezone and display settings wouldn't persist between sessions
- Security features that detect unusual login patterns couldn't function properly
We're collecting this data to make Merplex work better for everyone who uses it. When we see that most users struggle with a particular calendar filter, we redesign it. When page load times spike, we investigate immediately.
Taking Control of Your Cookies
Every major browser lets you manage cookies. You can block them entirely, delete existing ones, or set rules for which sites can use them. Just know that blocking essential cookies will break some site features.
Here's where to find cookie settings in popular browsers:
Most browsers also offer "private" or "incognito" modes that don't store cookies after you close the window. That's another option if you want to browse without leaving traces.
How Long We Keep This Data
Session cookies disappear when you close your browser. Functional cookies that remember your settings typically last up to 12 months. Analytics data gets aggregated and anonymized after 90 days.
We review and purge old tracking data regularly. There's no reason to keep detailed records of how you used the site two years ago—that wouldn't help anyone.
If you delete your Merplex account, we remove your associated cookie data within 30 days. Some aggregated, anonymized analytics might remain in our systems because it's no longer tied to you specifically.
Third-Party Tracking
We don't use advertising networks or sell your data to other companies. However, some third-party services we rely on (like hosting infrastructure and security monitoring) may set their own cookies.
These services operate under their own privacy policies, which we've vetted to ensure they meet reasonable standards. But we can't control their practices entirely—that's just how the modern web works.
We keep third-party tracking minimal because it's not our business model. We're focused on providing investment calendar tools, not harvesting user data for advertisers.
Mobile Apps and Other Platforms
If you use Merplex through a mobile app or browser, similar tracking applies. Mobile platforms use identifiers instead of traditional cookies, but the principle is the same—we're collecting usage data to improve functionality.
You can typically adjust tracking permissions in your device settings. iOS and Android both offer granular controls over what apps can track and access.
Policy Updates: We may update this policy as we add features or tracking methods change. Major changes will be announced through our platform. Last updated: January 15, 2025.
